Caloundra Music Festival

Caloundra Music Festival

Spring is here and it’s time again for the Caloundra Music Festival! This year it will be held over the long weekend from the 4th to 7th of October, so come and enjoy Caloundra’s annual dose of sun, surf and soul.

The Caloundra Music Festival is held in the Kings Beach area and surrounds of the Sunshine Coast. This year it celebrates its 13th year and is still going strong. The Festival always boasts a variety of top Australian artists, exciting emerging artists, and amazing international singers and musicians. There is a huge line-up of diverse musical talent so there’s something for everyone.

The main music stage is set in a grassy area and takes advantage of the slope of a hill which forms a natural amphitheatre, so you can be sure to see everything.

The community of Caloundra is proud to host this not for profit family-friendly festival. Apart from the world-class music, Caloundra also shows off its creative talents, local culture, vibrant night life, food and, of course, the stunning natural beauty of the Sunshine Coast.

Environment

Along with the music, the festival also celebrates the environment and actively promotes environmental awareness. If you arrive on a non-motorised vehicle (bicycle, scooter or skateboard), you are entitled to the Free Bike Valet Service. You will be given a lanyard which allows you to jump the queue at the main entry gate and to store a small backpack or bag for free in the cloakroom near the entry gate.

This year festival organisers have declared that the Caloundra Music Festival will be free from disposable plastic water bottles and request everyone to bring re-usable water bottles. They provide multiple fresh water refill stations across the festival site. No bottled water will be sold but stainless steel re-usable bottles can be purchased.

Organisers have also declared war on waste. For visitors, recycling bins are available all across the festival site to help keep the grounds clean. Vendors are also doing their bit. All bags must be made from bio-degradable cornstarch, paper or cloth. Cutlery, plates, and straws must be made from bio-degradable cornstarch, paper or wood. No plastic is allowed. Even biodegradable and ecological detergents must be used. While enjoying all the festival has to offer, you can also get some great green ideas that you can use when you go home.

Getting there

There is no parking at King’s beach, but there are nearby parking locations with shuttle buses to take you straight to the festival. Parking and shuttle buses are free.

A great alternative to driving is to cycle. There are plenty of bike racks available so parking your bike is easy. Of course, if it’s possible for you, the greenest way to get there is to walk from your accommodation.

Accommodation

Apart from the numerous permanent forms of accommodation in Caloundra, the Caloundra State Primary School opens its grounds and facilities to be used for camping during the Music Festival. The four-hectare site is flat, open and elevated, and is only 1.2km from the main stage so it’s an easy walk to the festival.

Numbers of campers are managed so it doesn’t get overcrowded. To ensure this, tickets must be pre-purchased and tickets are named. An ID is required. Any campers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

The camping ground boasts hot water showers, toilets, lighting and communal areas with tables and chairs.

Other activities

The Caloundra Music Festival is a family affair so there’s also plenty of stuff for kids to do. The Funky Forest has tons of activities for kids; face painting, kids yoga, kids bowling, art and craft activities, soccer, and all sorts of interactive activities. There’s something for kids of all ages.

The Funky Forest also has activities for adults. You can learn basic drumming techniques at the drumming workshop, or you can watch a comedy circus show featuring a Hill’s Hoist! An added bonus; most activities are free!

Caloundra Music Festival is so much more than a great music festival. It’s family entertainment at its best. Come and enjoy the festivities!
