Christmas on the Sunshine Coast

Christmas on the Sunshine Coast

Christmas on the Sunshine Coast

If you are lucky enough to be on the Sunshine Coast in the Christmas season, there are plenty of things to enjoy. And you don’t have to wait until 25 December. There are loads of events throughout December.

Coolum Twilight Markets

The Coolum Twilight Markets are held every Friday from 28 November to 18 January. The market is on the beautiful beachfront and you can buy a huge variety of goods from around 65 stallholders. They sell children’s toys, sunglasses, jewellery, woodwork and handmade clothing. As you would expect on the Sunshine Coast, there is also a wonderful variety of arts and craft made by local artisans. A great place to shop for those Christmas presents!

The Twilight Market is first rate and has a great variety of food and entertainment. Here you’ll find lots of stuff for the kids to do and keep them happy eating snow cones, fudge, and ice cream. You can even get your fruit and veg!

The Coolum Twilight Market is run by the local Coolum Lioness Club. It is a not for profit club and proceeds are donated to the local community.

On 15 December the town also hosts a special Christmas event, Coolum in the Park. Come to a great family event in the park from 7-9pm where you can enjoy a visit from Santa, use your glow sticks, sing carols and watch the fireworks.

Hastings St Christmas Lights, Noosa

Noosa kicks off the Christmas season on 29 November with the lighting of their famous Christmas tree in Hastings St. From 5.30-7pm come and enjoy the street performers and Christmas pantomime. The kids will get a visit from Santa and be given some small gifts.

On 16 December Noosa Church hosts Carols on the River from 7-9pm at Noosaville Lions Park. All the fun stuff of Christmas is there; food, Santa, glow products, and fireworks.

Woombye’s Christmas on the Field
If you are inland at Woombye on 1 December, pop along to the Woombye soccer ground where they are holding Woombye Christmas on the Field. There you’ll have plenty of food, a live band, games, and of course a visit from Santa.

Peregian Springs Christmas Spectacular

Head north on 5 December to Peregian Springs. Their Christmas market opens with a variety of market food stalls and children’s entertainment. At 6.30 the Christmas Carols begin. What’s December without Christmas carols!

On 11 December you can enjoy Christmas Carols all over again at nearby Peregian Beach. In fact this is the oldest standing Christmas Carols even on the Sunshine Coast. Heaps of food, heaps of market stalls, heaps of singing and heaps of fun. Fireworks will be held at 9pm.

Bli Bli State School

Further south, on 7 December, Bli Bli State School hosts their own Christmas party. They’ll have free rides, market stalls, animals, face painting for the kids, and of course delicious food. But that’s not all, the evening is topped of with Christmas Carols and a fireworks display!

Lights on the Lake, Currimundi

For something a bit different, head along to Currimundi Lake on 8 December. Lights on the Lake is Currimundi’s biggest community event and they do it in style. There are heaps of kids’ activities, market stalls, and entertainment. But what makes this event different is you can see Santas on their boats on the lake! You can even decorate your own canoe or kayak with Christmas lights and join the parade of boats. Last year ended with a stunning laser show.

Mooloolaba Boat Parade

Speaking of boats, you really shouldn’t miss the Mooloolaba Christmas Boat Parade. This year it will be held on Saturday 14 December from 6.30pm.

Instead of Christmas light decorations being on houses, here they are on boats! Watch the brightly coloured lights on the Christmas boats as they make their way down the Mooloolah River. Hosted by the Mooloolaba Yacht Club, this spectacular parade is a very Sunshine Coast way to celebrate Christmas!

Other places

If you are in Baringa on the 7th, go along to the Baringa Civic Square. From 5-8pm enjoy the first ever Aura Community Christmas Carols. Come and sing your heart out!

Maroochydore will hold their own Carols event at Cotton Tree Park on The Esplanade on 8th December. Bring a picnic rug, blankets, and a chair and sing your favourite Christmas songs. The event has a variety of food stalls, a visit from Santa, and ends with a fireworks display at 8pm.

Nambour holds its Christmas Twilight Market on 15 December, kicking off at 3pm and finishing around 8.15 pm. There will be more than 40 market stalls, face painting, and a jumping castle. But on 15 December bring a blanket to the Kings Beach Amphitheatre around 4.30 pm and sing along at Carols on Kings. Fireworks finish the special Christmas evening at 8pm.

On the Sunshine Coast there is never a shortage of things to do and Christmas is no exception. All over the Coast there are heaps of activities throughout the festive season. You will never be bored and you will definitely be spoiled for choice with Christmas presents!
