Sunshine Coast After Dark

Sunshine Coast After Dark

After making the most of the beauty of the Sunshine Coast in the daytime, the Coast also offers a wide variety of activities to enjoy in the evenings and keep you going into the night.

Bars and Restaurants

To start your evening, what better way than to get a bite to eat? As a popular tourist destination, the Sunshine Coast has a vast array of restaurants. Here are some of the special places where you can combine your meal with something special while not blowing your budget.

In Mooloolaba try the One Up Bar and Bistro on the Mooloolaba Esplanade. You can enjoy a meal or drinks on their open-air dining terrace overlooking the beach. The menu includes Aussie and Asian cuisine. Being a bistro, prices are reasonable and they offer meals for kids too. Good food, a wide variety of drinks, beach views… No wonder it’s so popular!

Just a bit further down the Mooloolaba Esplanade is the Beach Bar and Grill. If you want to drink craft beer while savouring a spectacular view of the beach, this is the place for you. Popular with tourists and locals alike, you can get excellent food at affordable prices and enjoy a wonderful relaxed atmosphere.

If you’d like a British-style pub where you can watch live sport on big screens while having a drink with friends, try the Pig ‘n’ Whistle. Pig ‘n’ Whistle bars are in numerous locations on the east coast, and the Sunshine Coast has one at Sunshine Plaza in Maroochydore. It’s a great place to spend the evening, or to have a few drinks before catching a movie or doing some shopping in the plaza next door.

Nightclubs

In Mooloolaba you can find the Wharf Tavern, which is located right on the Mooloolah River. The bistro offers both lunch and dinner, but after dinner you can kick off the night at the Tavern’s Helm Nightclub and party til 3am. The Helm has a DJ, live bands, great lighting and a fantastic sound system. If that’s not for you, watch some live football or enjoy a game of pool at the Sports Bar. The Wharf Tavern has something for everyone!

Maroochydore has one of the Sunshine Coast’s hottest music venues; the Solbar Nightclub. Although it’s a nightclub, you can also grab breakfast, lunch and dinner there. They even have an environmentally friendly initiative. If you bring your own coffee cup, you’ll get a discount! However, the Solbar’s main focus is on live music and supporting the arts in various ways. You can not only listen to a huge variety of bands and performing artists from Thursday to Sunday, but even the walls boast exhibitions of visual art. Every night is different and it’s one of the coolest places on the Coast. On Wednesday you can even grab the mike yourself and have a go! It’s worth noting that because they want everyone to enjoy themselves in a safe environment, they take security seriously and use an ID scanner.

Other things to do

There is far more to the Sunshine Coast than bars, clubs and restaurants. Below are some other ideas you can try.

Karaoke

Sing your heart out from 7.30pm on Wednesday and Thursday nights at the Noosa Surf Club. The Surf Club is a great place to hand out with your friends and see who can sing the best – or worst! The Surf Club also grab breakfast, lunch and dinner there, but dinner is only until 8.30pm. They’ve got great beach front dining with steak, pasta, seafood and, of course, fish and chips.

Learn to dance rock ‘n’ roll

Every Friday night from 7.30 pm – 9.15pm, the Freemason’s Hall at Caloundra hold a rock ‘n’ roll dance class. It’s been running for over 20 years. All levels from beginners to advanced are welcome. Why not give it a go and amaze your friends with your dance routines when you get home!

If you want to do something really different, try diving at night. The Sunshine Coast waters are amazing in the daytime, but at night they take on a surreal beauty. Just a 30 minute boat ride from Mooloolaba lies the wreck of the HMAS Brisbane. Both Sunreef and Scubaworld will take you there. You can go into the ship and swim in the engine room or the control room, or you can simply explore the outside. You can see massive Queensland groupers and a huge assortment of other sea creatures including lion fish, snapper, rays, squid and even a resident octopus.

Mini golf

The Holey Moley Golf Club in Maroochydore has one of the craziest mini golf labyrinths you’ll ever see. You can putt your way through 9, 18, and even 27 holes! The fun doesn’t stop there. The Golf Club is fully licensed so you can enjoy drinks with your friends. The even have karaoke! Holey Moley Golf Club takes golf to a whole new level.

Bingo

The little inland town of Nambour doesn’t offer your bog standard bingo. No, this is bingo with a difference. This is Drag Queen Bingo! Join the Queen of the Sunshine Coast, Melony Brests, and her right-hand gal Sall Monalla the first Thursday of every month. Balls start dropping at 7pm.

Bouldering

If you’ve got a lot of energy and like being physical, try rock climbing at the Rockit Climbing Gym in Warana. They’re open until 9pm week days and weekends until 5pm. Don’t worry if you’ve never done it before, instructors are on hand to take you through it.
