To make your holiday planning easier, we’ve compiled the Top 8 family fun activities to enjoy on the Sunshine Coast with options for rain or shine, so you’ll never run out of things to do. 

  1. Beach hopping!

 The best things in life are free! The Sunshine Coast has some of the best beaches in the world, spanning the Queensland coastline from Caloundra up to Noosa. Most of our beaches are decked out with family fun in mind with lifeguard patrols, playgrounds, toilets and BBQ facilities and good coffee is seldom far away. Pack the sunscreen, boogie boards and a picnic – and you can spend the day enjoying the sand and surf that the Sunshine Coast is known for.

Local Tip: Be on the lookout for the hidden creeks, swimming pools and rock pools nestled among Currimundi Beach, Kings Beach and more, and explore the walking trails and surrounding nature to experience more than what meets the eye.

  1. Australia Zoo 

Locals and tourists alike would be remiss to avoid our most famous attraction. You should believe the hype about Australia Zoo with its vast range of wildlife and fauna, conservation efforts and exciting croc and wildlife shows. Experience Australia like you never have before by being upfront and personal with some of our most stunning and fearsome creatures, with opportunities to cuddle a Koala and feed a Crocodile. Snap a selfie with a kangaroo or experience the wonder of the African Savannah from Bindi’s treehouse lookout. The whole family will be slack-jawed and wide-eyed after a day spent at one of the world’s greatest interactive conservation facilities. 

Local Tip: Keep an eye on special events and experiences available during the school holidays such as the opportunity to be a Zookeeper for a day!

  1. Sea Life 

Sea Life is a multi-award-winning ocean exhibit neighboring some of the best restaurants and eateries on the Mooloolaba Wharf. Home to thousands of exciting aquatic creatures large and small, Sea Life is an exciting underwater experience that you can enjoy rain or shine. With sharks, crocodiles, seals and interactive shows and exhibits, plus stingrays, tropical fish and more – the whole family will enjoy this exciting insight into the depths of the ocean. 

Local Tip: After enjoying your time at Sea Life, head next door to the Esplanade for a delicious meal by the seaside to discuss what may be swimming below your feet. 

  1. Noosa National Park

Located in the lushest, semi-untouched rainforests on the Sunshine Coast, you can choose from a range of different hiking and bushwalking pathways, from the short stroll to the hardcore trek, and can overlook the expansive Noosa shoreline. Cool off with a swim in the clear blue water, enjoy a meal or a spot of shopping on Hastings’s street, and your entire day will be an absolute delight. 

Local Tip: it can be difficult to find a park at this popular location, so carpool if you can, or get there early to pack in a whole day of fun!

 

 

 

 

 

  1. Eumundi Markets 

If you’re an avid market goer, chances are you’ve heard of the Eumundi Markets. The markets occur on Wednesday and Saturday mornings in the small country town of Eumundi, and they take over the Old Butter Factory on Sundays. You can expect to experience some of the best artisan creations from the Sunshine Coast and beyond, and you’ll love the drive to the markets, with the classic natural surrounds of the hinterlands at every turn. 

Local Tip: Plan some extra time for your market trip to explore some of the small country towns surrounding Eumundi. Kenilworth has the best doughnuts you’ll ever eat!

  1. Aussie World 

 Right next to the world-famous Banana Bender Pub (previously the Ettamogah Pub), Aussie World is the Sunshine Coast’s answer to a theme park to excite the kids and delight the parents. With family favourites such as a waterlog ride, a Ferris wheel and a giant slide, Aussie World is an affordable and accessible fun park that will have the entire family sore from belly laughs and full of scrumptious theme park junk food.

  1. Maleny Botanic Gardens 

Give the kids room to run and explore with the Melany Botanic Gardens. Take a trip down the garden pathways to experience some of the most beautiful, rare, and exquisite native fauna, plus ponds and waterfalls to park your picnic beside. The kids will love the included Bird World with over 400 different species to watch fly overhead in the aviary. With the Glass House Mountains as a backdrop, a day spent enjoying the fresh mountain air and experiencing some of the best that nature has to offer will be the perfect way to relax on your holiday. 

Local Tip: Don’t forget to pack a picnic!

 

  1. Bellingham Maze and Mini Golf

Bellingham MazeGet competitive with your offspring with the Bellingham Maze and Mini Golf. With a brain-teasing 80×80 metre living outdoor maze full of tricks and turns, your family will be in a tailspin to race to the end. For those who enjoy the calmer side of life, the Maze Café offers delicious spoils to sit and enjoy amongst the untouched nature, or you’re welcome to stroll the maze and experience the gardens. To complete the day, enjoy a round of Mini Golf on the 18-hole course.
